Why do I have to insure myself with a health insurance company?
In Germany, most people are required to have insurance - including employees. This means that if you are employed and earn less than 69.300 (2024) / vsl. 73.800 (2025) EUR, you must insure yourself with a statutory health insurance company. There is an exception for mini jobs. This is to ensure that all people are covered in case of illness.
