What is the difference between statutory and private health insurance?

The DAK-Gesundheit is a statutory health insurance company. This means that most of the services are required by law and the general contribution rate is the same for all statutory health insurance schemes. In addition, all health insurance schemes charge an individual additional contribution.
There are also private health insurance schemes. These schemes charge premiums based on your personal health risk. They take into account your age, medical condition and occupation. This is one of the main differences between private health insurance and the insurance provided by DAK-Gesundheit or any other statutory health insurance scheme.
